Before your first visit

We want to make your first visit easier for you and your child

The My Therapy House® Developmental team and visiting Medical Consultants want the experience of My Therapy House® to be a pleasant one for you and your child (ren). We have gone to great lengths to develop purpose designed spaces for children and parents to feel relaxed and welcomed.

Generally, you do not need a referral for My Therapy House®. You can call us to get the ball rolling. Please refer to our Funding page for funding options for your child’s and family’s therapeutic program.

Once we have received this information, we will then email out a general intake form.

Complete the form to the best of your ability and email or post back to My Therapy House®, PO Box 1066 Pasadena South Australia 5042, at your earliest possible convenience. Once we have received the form and My Therapy House® has sufficient information about your child, then.

We will arrange an initial 60 minute meeting with the parents/caregivers of the child.

The purpose of the meeting is to:

  • Help you understand who we are and how we work
  • Go over your child’s and your needs in more detail
  • Gain preliminary information for your child’s initial assessment with our allied health team and medical practitioner(s)
  • Determine together if My Therapy House® is the best practice to meet your child’s and family’s needs.

We charge $100 for this preliminary meeting. If, during this meeting you decide that My Therapy House® is NOT the best practice for your child and family, we then will provide you with information that may help you in your search for the best practitioner for your child. If you decide My Therapy House® is the best fit for your child and family, then during the meeting we will provide you with pre-assessment information to complete and arrange an assessment time that suits you and the My Therapy House® team. The cost of the meeting then comes off the cost of your child’s Initial Assessment.

Step 5

Once we have arranged a time for your Initial Assessment.

The My Therapy House® assessment is a multi-disciplinary assessment which includes the My Therapy House® Developmental Team and the visiting Medical Consultant. We base our assessment on the child's social-emotional development, individual profile and family dynamics and how this impacts the child's development. The assessment will involve you (child’s primary carer(s)) playing with your child(ren) in different ways, with different toys and equipment. We will video your session, as it is important for our analysis and as a baseline measurement for you and your child. Assessments usually take 90 minutes with you and your child and 90 minutes to analyse and document the information. In total, assessments sometimes take up to 6 hours over a few sessions for children and families with more complex needs and usually involve more than one My Therapy House® therapist’s input.

Step 6

The Initial Functional Emotional Development Assessment and My Therapy House® Service Plan is written up and emailed to you.

Step 7

Optional: Booking in a follow up session to discuss assessment and intervention.

We can book in a follow up session. The follow up session may take 60-90 minutes, depending on each family’s individual needs and complexity of the information.

We can begin to discuss the My Therapy House® service plan and how each part of the My Therapy House® team will be able to help meet your needs. This will be a collaborative process between you and My Therapy House®. The service plan may also be written in collaboration with other therapists who are providing services to your child
